About Us

The American Wear started with a simple frustration: a jacket that looked right for one season and fell apart in the second. We could not find the version of it that lasted, so we made one.

How we work

We keep the range small on purpose. A handful of fits, worked on year after year, is worth more than a catalogue that changes every quarter. When something is right we leave it alone; when it is not, we pull it and start again.

Every run is cut in small batches. That means we sell out sometimes, and it means we can hold a mill to a standard rather than a price.

Fabric

We buy from mills we have visited, mostly in the American South, and we say on every product page what a garment is made of and where it was sewn. If a fabric comes from overseas because nobody makes it here any more, we say that too.

What you can expect

• Clothes that break in rather than break down.
• Sizing that stays consistent from season to season.
• A person on the other end of an email, usually within a day.
